GammaSpec

Gamma Spectrometry is used to measure radionuclides that emit gamma. It include natural or made made radionuclides. The Gamma Spectrometry that was used is from ORTEC®
The samples is counted using HPGe detector with resolution 1.84 eV, 25% relative efficiency at 1332 KeV 60Co gamma ray and couple to an Multi Channel Analyser (MCA).

Gamma Spectrometry System

Type of samples that can be measured using gamma spectrometer is liquid and solid samples. solid samples must be oven dried, grind, sieve and grounded for 3 weeks before measured. Efficiency calibration must be perform for quantitative analysis. our gamma spectrometer used mixed uranium trioxide and potassium chloride for measuring efficiency of the gamma spectrometer. The efficiency calibration will be measured using the same geometry as sample. For liquid sample, 600 ml is required to fill in the marinelli beaker and grounded for 3 weeks before measured. time of measuring the sample is vary with the type of sample, low activity required more counting time compared to high activity. For example water and soil, generally environmental samples of water contain low activity compared to soil.
